COMPARE THE NEW CHEVY EQUINOX AND TO THE HONDA CR-V

Which Should I Buy: Equinox or C-RV?

The 2021 Chevy Equinox and Honda CR-V are both stylish small SUV's with a lot to offer for each of their price points. From a comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistance options, to additional hidden storage, to available AWD, to comfort and technology; there are a ton of similarities between the two vehicles. However; we believe here at Jim Keras that the Chevy Equinox beats out the CR-V because it offers a better value, and we believe that you'll agree with us, too.

Key Dimensions

 2021 Chevy Equinox 2021 Honda CR-V
 Ground Clearance 8' 7.8'
 Wheel Base 107.3' 104.8'
 Cargo Space (Seats Up/Seats Down) 29.9'/63.9' 39.2'/75.8'
 Passenger Space (LT/EX) 103.5'^3 102.9"^3

The Chevy Equinox and the Honda CR-V offer excellent specs for their class; however, in all but raw cargo space, the 2021 Chevy Equinox outmatches the 2021 Honda CR-V. The '21 Equinox offers a larger minimum ground clearance, and a wider wheel base for a more comfortable ride on Memphis streets and  on Collierville and Olive Branch highways.  On top of that, the Chevy Equinox offers more room for passengers in all models (103.5 cubic inches) than its competitor, despite having less cargo space, making it a more comfortable space for kids or adults in the back seat.

Overall, despite offering less pure cargo space than the CRV, the 2021 Chevy Equinox offers more value in the comfort offered for you and any number of passengers you might need to carry this Summer.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

  Equinox CR-V
 Fuel Economy
 25 MPG City / 30 MPG Highway 28 MPG City / 34 MPG Highway (2WD)
Fuel Tank 15.6 gal 14 gal
Trailering Capacity  1500 lbs 1500 lbs
AWD Available in LS, LT, and Premium Models Available in EX, EX-L, and Touring Models
 Engine1.5L Turbo 4-Cylinder In-Line 4-Cylinder Turbo

There's no denying that the Honda C-RV offers great gas mileage and, as well as a trailering package on par with the Chevy Equinox. However, we believe that the Equinox continues to offer serious value in its AWD option, especially. The AWD engine package can be added to almost any trim level, as opposed to only the EX and up model on the C-RV, while offering in its 6-speed transmission similar fuel economy at a lower price.

Safety Features

When it comes to safety features, both the 2021 Equinox and the CR-V come standard with top of the line safety equipment. Teen Driver Technology, and Rear Seat Reminder come standard, while the  available HD Surround Vision and Safety Alert Seat with haptic feedback help prevent accidents from happening in the first place.

The 2021 Equinox comes with standard collision alert and automatic emergency braking. It also comes standard with front pedestrian braking when driving less than 50 mph during the day, as well as Intellibeam automatic high beam assist for night driving on I-55 or driving around North Mississippi.

The C-RV offers it's Honda Sensing technology standard with the C-RV; however, it doesn't offer the same level of safety technology as you get in the '21 Equinox. For this reason, we at Jim Keras believe that the '21 Equinox is a better vehicle for keeping you and your family safe anywhere you drive in the Mid-South.

The 2021 Equinox offers tons of value in its comfort and technology and comfort. We mentioned earlier that because of the difference in shape of the interior and the wider wheel base of the Equinox, that it offers a more comfortable ride than the '21 C-RV, but the Equinox offers more than just a smooth ride when you compare the two. The 2021 Chevy Equinox comes standard with the MyChevrolet app and amazon Alexa integration, as well as available remote start, remote automatic liftgate, and even the ability to have Amazon packages delivered directly to your car. The Chevy Equinox can also boast one of the best sound systems, with a 6-way surround sound system complete with available active noise cancelation for an even quieter ride.
