Equinox vs. Ford Edge: which is right for me?

The 2021 Chevy Equinox and Ford Edge are some of the best midsized SUV's the US has to offer. The Edge, with its starting price of around $32,250, is a good sized SUV capable of hauling passengers and cargo alike, while the Equinox, at its starting price of around $23,000, offers stronger fuel economy, better safety features, and (in the humble opinion of this Jim Keras Marketing intern) a far superior value to the Ford Edge.

Key Dimensions

 Cargo Space 29.9'/63.9' 39.2'/73.4
 Passenger Space 103.5'^3 113.9'^3
The Ford Edge is a larger vehicle than the Equinox, there's no questioning that fact. However, the large size of the Ford Edge comes at a bit of a cost to drivability, as well as other things that we will talk about later in this comparison. The Equinox's smaller stature helps make it a much more convenient drive in places like Downtown Memphis, where tighter turns and parallel parking is more common.

When it comes to the power trains of the Equinox and the Edge, we think that there is no comparison between the two. Yes, the Ford Edge is a hair quicker off the line, but the Chevy Equinox is capable of trailering the same amount of weight, while also being much less expensive to drive and to fill up both during your daily commute and on the highway. That means that you save more when you pick up the kids from school, as well as when you take the trip through down I-40 through Collierville. We here at Jim Keras believe that when it comes to powertrain and fuel economy, you're not going to get a better value than the '21 Chevrolet Equinox.

Safety Features

When it comes to safety features, both the 2021 Equinox and the CR-V come standard with top of the line safety equipment. The 2021 Equinox comes with standard collision alert and automatic emergency braking. It also comes standard with front pedestrian braking when driving less than 50 mph during the day, as well as Intellibeam automatic high beam assist for night driving on I-55 or driving around North Mississippi.

Comfort, Convenience, and Technology

The 2021 Equinox offers tons of value in its comfort and technology and comfort. We mentioned earlier that because of the difference in shape of the interior and the wider wheel base of the Equinox, that it offers a more comfortable ride than the '21 C-RV, but the Equinox offers more than just a smooth ride when you compare the two.

The 2021 Chevy Equinox comes standard with the MyChevrolet app and amazon Alexa integration, as well as available remote start, remote automatic liftgate, and even the ability to have Amazon packages delivered directly to your car. Ford offers a similar product with Ford Pass, but it lacks the available Alexa integration that comes with the MyChevrolet app.
The Chevy Equinox can also boast one of the best sound systems, with a 6-way surround sound system complete with available active noise cancelation for an even quieter ride.

These are just the major differences in comfort tech between the Edge and Equinox. Check out our information page on the Equinox for more information on trim levels and interiors.
