Malibu vs. Toyota Camry

Malibu Offers Luxury where Camry Can't.

The 2021 Chevy Malibu and the Toyota Camry are popular mid-size sedans in the Memphis market. They both offer ample passenger space, while also offering economical sizes. The Camry has the reputation for being one of the best values on the automotive market, but the Malibu offers much more value in its luxurious look and feel than its reputable rival. We at Jim Keras know that there's a lot to offer from the Toyota, but we believe that the comfortable ride and assortment of tech help make the Chevy Malibu the better purchase.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

The 2021 Toyota Camry offers a standard 2L 4 cylinder engine that boasts a very strong 28 mpg (city)/ 39 mpg (hwy). It also offers a hybrid variation. The '21 Malibu offers a standard 1.5 L 4-cylinder engine with a second 2 L variation available with a surprising amount of pep. It gets up to 29mpg city and 36 mpg highway (although in practice, we regularly see as high as 40 mpg highway on long drives). We think that the '21 Chevy Malibu really steps up to the plate against the Camry in ways that older models have not in past years.

Comfort and Technology

Where the Malibu really catches the Toyota Camry is in its impressively calm ride. According to Car and Driver Magazine, "[Camry's] upper trims sacrifice some efficiency at the altar of luxury." Where the Toyota Camry skimps on comfort, the Chevy Malibu offers a wonderfully smooth ride on both Poplar and I-40.  It offers active noise cancellation in the cabin, further adding to the sense of luxury that the Malibu offers.

Malibu also offers some of the most desirable options in connectivity, with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a built in mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. As well as a bevy of safety features and technology like Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. We at Jim Keras think that the Chevy Malibu offers a more comfortable driving and passenger experience than the Camry, and we think that you will, too.

Warranty

Both the Toyota and Chevrolet offer comparable warranties for all of their vehicles. Non-hybrid models of RAV4 can see basic warranties of 3 years/36,000 miles, as well as a 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. Hybrid models of the Camry can see an extended battery warranty of 10 years/100,000 miles. Equinox has a standard 3yr/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, and a 5yr/60,000 mile warranty.
